Make Your Home Smell Like Autumn

Autumn might just be our favourite season; the colours, the smells, the crispy weather. As the temperatures begin to drop, we start to spend more time in doors, lighting fires and slow cooking. While we love a good apple pie, who has the time to bake one from scratch? Below are some quick tricks to help your home smell like you just baked a pie or whipped up a pumpkin spice latte!

Simmer Pot:

Pop this on a spare ring on your hob. The fragrance will fill your home, making it really cosy and inviting. You can use the peels of the fresh items below so you can eat the fruit.

In a large pot of water place slices or peels of some apples and oranges. Add some cinnamon sticks, cloves, vanilla extract and star anise. If you have a pine tree nearby, you can add in some sprigs too.

Once the pot starts to come to the boil, turn it right down to a low simmer - or put it in your slow cooker on low for the day. Be sure to periodically check the water level and add more as it evaporates throughout the day.

DIY AUTUMNAL ROOM SPRAY:

You can pick up small bottles of essential oils in your local pharmacy or gift store. For this particular fragrance you can use a combination of clove, ginger, orange, cardamom and cinnamon oils. Some essential oil companies also do pre-mixed blends, so you could try some of these to see if you like them. Once you have chosen your essential oils, add a few drops of each to one cup of distilled water and pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Et voila, you have a DIY Autumnal Room Spray.
